In his previous C9 interview, Mark told us about many of the new additions to the Windows kernel which enable Windows 7 (and Windows Server R2) to scale to large numbers of processors. Well, removing the kernel dispatcher lock is not all that the great Arun Kishan did. He also developed a new scheduling mechanism known as Distributed Fair Share Scheduling (DFSS). Mark describes what this is and how it works.

We also discuss NUMA, non-uniform memory access, (and Mark explains NUMA to us while showing a demo or two on a 256 processor machine!)

Moving on to Windows memory management, the domain of the great engineer Landy Wang, Mark discusses the new additions to the Windows Memory Manager and explains why they matter to those of us who spend all of our time and in user mode.

Learn about all of this and much more as Mark digs into the insides of Windows 7, way deep down in the system (the culmative effects of which help to make Windows 7 Microsoft’s most reliable, scalable and efficient general purpose operating system to date). As usual, Mark explains very complex mechanisms and concepts in a readily understandable way. This is a very conversational piece and we cover a lot of ground in a relatively short period of time. We also learn exactly why Mark is so passionate about operating systems and what the spark was that set off his passion and curiosity of how things work internally.

His talks will be very deep and will explore all aspects of the new, improved Windows 7 kernel. Mig Productions enter the Movie Business

The Nuremberg Trade Show was the platform chosen by Mig Productions to launch their latest release – a 58 minute DVD, the first in a series which deals with the always complex subject of using Pigments.

Mig Productions release their different product categories under a series of different labels – 502 Abteilung (brushes and oil paints), Sin Industries (Filter sets), Mig Productions (update sets, Pigments and complete kits). Now, a fourth name has been added – Night Vision which will be the area responsible for producing and releasing a series of DVDs. The first of these (after two years of preparation and planning!) has now been released:

F.A.Q. Volume 1 – The Pigments
This 58- minute DVD demonstrates using pigments on a variety of different projects and to acheive a variety of different effects. Speaking with Miguel and Adam (who does the commentary), the rationale behind the DVD was simple – books can only go so far when one is demonstrating a technique – sometimes you have to see it ‘in action’. As an addition to the DVD, a small 8-page booket is also included which has additional information about areas such as thinning and also using pigments in other areas of modeling such as figures, aviation or SF. The DVD can be obtained directly from the company or thru your usual suppliers of Mig Productions’ products. However, the story doesn’t end here. The next DVD is already in production. This, which will be done by Adam Wilder, will guide the users thru the minefield of Washes, Filter and using Oil Paints. The next three will cover Paint Chipping, using PE and Winter Camouflage…

Mig Productions – FAQ DVD Vol.2 (Modulation Style)
The first segment of the dvd thoroughly explains how to both properly use and maintain your airbrush. Having an understanding of how to use your airbrush will aid you in obtaining the different tones and gradients needed when applying the modulation style with other types of scale model painting. Also demonstrated are two different examples of airbrushing a base coat onto a model using the modulation style, applying contrast detail, fading with oils, washes and paint chips which are all explained in detail with clear close up footage of these techniques being performed by a professional modeller. Running time – 60 minutes

The company have also entered into partnership with Vallejo to produce a series of Acrylic Paint Sets (along with a couple of high-quality brushes) which will cover all the principal combatants. The first of these:
